Live coverage: Steve Jobs unveils Apple's iPad 2 Want to know more about the iPad 2? You can follow our complete live coverage of Apple's iPad 2 event here. Your final product can be emailed out to friends or exported to your computer. You'll be able to record and play back your masterpieces and edit, trim, and move tracks as you go along to create arrangements. GarageBand has a "smart" instrument feature which teaches you to play as well as an AutoPlay feature with which you can pretend to be a master musician. GarageBand will be available in the Apple App Store on March 11 and cost $4.99.Īmong the features listed above, it will also offer all sorts of instruments - guitars, pianos, organs, drums, keyboards, synths, and more - which will use the iPad's accelerometer to recognize pressure when you play them. You will be able to alter octaves, tones, and various effects using various sliders.ĭon't know how to play an instrument? No problem. Also, it's compatible with the Mac version. There are also guitar amps and effects, 8-track recording, a library of loops, and you can export via AAC, right from the iPad. It's a cool app withdynamic (that is, touch-sensitive) multi-touch instruments - it measures the intensity of your taps via the accelerometer. Our very own Wilson Rothman sounded pleased with the app's general features when he saw it presented during the iPad 2 event: Apple's popular music creation and editing app GarageBand will be heading to the iPad soon - and at first glance, it looks like a blast.

On the other hand, 124 (14%) of 892 nonallergic children met the criteria for a possible allergic reaction to propofol. Sommerfield found that two of 304 children with egg, peanut, soybean, or legume allergy experienced a possible allergic reaction to propofol that may be due to egg sensitization in children sensitized to both egg yolk and egg white. Among egg-allergic children, reactions to propofol was reported in a child with egg anaphylaxis but not in those with egg allergy. The use of propofol in children with egg and soy allergy is a matter of debate. Propofol is a fat emulsion containing soybean oil and purified egg lecithin (phospholipids derived from egg yolk). Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic that is widely used for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia as well as for endoscopic and pediatric sedation. If the skin test result is positive, the vaccine can be given in graded doses in a hospital. If the test result is negative, vaccination can be given with a 60-min observation following the injection. Yellow fever vaccine contains egg protein and children with egg allergy should receive a skin prick test to the vaccine with progressive dilution (1:10 and 1:1) and an intradermal test with a 1:100 dilution. Children with a previous history of immediate allergic reactions to egg that do not involve only skin (anaphylaxis) should receive the influenza vaccine under the supervision of personnel who are experts in recognizing and treating allergic reactions. The children should then be kept under medical surveillance for 30 min. Both inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) and live attenuated influenza vaccine can be safely administered to children with egg allergy in the usual manner. However, there is no additional risk for children with severe egg allergy. This method theoretically could lead to higher egg protein in the vaccine. Īllergic reactions to the influenza vaccine in children with egg allergy was a matter of debate since this vaccine cultured on embryonated chicken eggs. Children who are allergic to eggs can safely receive both types of vaccines without any precautions. They both contain little or no egg protein. Chick embryo fibroblast cultures are used for measles-mumps-rubella and purified chick embryo rabies vaccines. Vaccines prepared on embryonated chicken eggs can contain trace amounts of egg proteins, especially ovalbumin. It’s not uncommon for matchmaking to place you in a team with players on other platforms, and I didn’t notice any significant lag or technical issues. The game is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with your character’s progression constant across all four. One of Dauntless’ most touted features is its cross-platform play. In all, Dauntless’ compact presentation plays well with its intended audience. I wish the small environments were a bit more exciting, but I was never left aimlessly wandering through a directionless labyrinth of tunnels either. I never felt the fatigue that can accompany some of the more long-winded quests of Monster Hunter. This is likely a design decision aimed at keeping you playing, and it certainly worked on me. It also means that you’ll be upgrading gear at a fairly brisk pace in the early game. I rarely encountered a quest that lasted more than 15 to 20 minutes, making Dauntless a great way to kill short amounts of time. It’s also nicely categorized with sections for each weapon and monster, making it easy to navigate to the tasks you’re most interested in. A hunt usually results in two or three items getting checked off the list, which can be satisfying for a while. The upside of the mastery system is that it feels like you’re rewarded for everything you do. The reward for completing goals is usually experience that contributes to your slayer’s overall level. These include breaking behemoth parts with specific weapons, reaching crafting milestones, slaying a certain number of each monster, and more. Looking at the mastery screen in the menu presents a sprawling checklist of goals to aim for. For the most part, each weapon is accessible enough that they’re easy to pick up and start doing damage, but boast plenty of depth for dedicated players looking to specialize in just one or two.ĭauntless’ method of character progression is the mastery system. Developer Phoenix Labs definitely flexed its creative muscles with some fun designs, such as a hammer that doubles as a shotgun, and - my personal favorite - a spear that can fire missiles. For example, the axe favors a slower, more deliberate approach, while the chain blades are a whirlwind of quick slashes. At the time of publication, there are seven different weapons, all with distinct movesets. Combat is fast-paced, and each of the weapons boasts a unique play style. The actual hunting of behemoths is also a lot of fun. And with a handful of different armor sets and weapons within each element, there’s no shortage of targets to aim for. The prospect of having all my bases covered was surprisingly motivating. For much of the early game, gearing up in order to be prepared for any element is the carrot on the stick, so to speak. This is also true for terra/shock and radiant/umbral. Frost, for example, is weak to fire, and vice versa. Each behemoth aligns with one of them, and they take extra damage from the opposing element. There are six different element types present: blaze, frost, terra, shock, radiant, and umbral. For me, Dauntless started to fizzle a bit around the time I was able to craft weapons and sets of armor covering each of the element types present in the game.Ĭheck out our Reviews Vault for past game reviews. That central conceit is what drives progression, and will likely determine how long you’re willing to play. Each slain behemoth yielded crafting materials that allowed me to quickly upgrade from my beginner armor and weapons, giving me the strength needed to take on tougher monsters. After a handful of hunts in Dauntless, I was feeling good about my progress. Until you hit that wall, there’s a lot to like. This means that the gene related to the disorder can be passed to a child by just one parent. Neurofibromatosis type 2 is known as an autosomal dominant disorder. However, neurofibromatosis type 2 only accounts for about 5% of acoustic neuroma cases.Ī hallmark characteristic of neurofibromatosis type 2 is noncancerous tumors on the balance nerves on both sides of the head. The only confirmed risk factor for acoustic neuromas is having a parent with the rare genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 2. The person has a 50% chance of having an unaffected child. A person with an autosomal dominant disorder - in this example, the father - has a 50% chance of having an affected child with one changed gene. You need only one changed gene to be affected by this type of disorder. It's located on one of the nonsex chromosomes, called autosomes. In an autosomal dominant disorder, the changed gene is a dominant gene. I will stick with iA Writer on the iPad, and right-off the Mac version purchase as a bum investment. Word I ditched a long time ago - though I still own the latest MS-Office (also prefer Numbers to Excel, and Keynote to PowerPoint). I use Pages, TextWrangler, and (rarely these days) Mellel. But the flexibility afforded by Pages makes it the winner on the Mac, not iA Writer. It provides all the flexibility (simple or sophisticated) I need, albeit without one or two nice features found in iA Writer. But I use 24-27" monitors, quite different animals.įrankly, Pages in full screen mode is pretty terrific. I can't.īut, on a MacBook Air iA Writer will no doubt shine pretty well. Further, with a large screen, I would like to adjust the margin sizes, top, bottom and sides. For example, I would like to sometimes view the text in a larger size (my eyes are getting old). The Mac form factor, especially with a large screen, requires more flexibility. On the Mac, with it's very different form factor, iA Writer simply does not shine. I am a big supporter of iA Writer on the iPad, and bought the Mac product. For $9.99 it's a rip off when you can use free alternatives already installed or much better alternatives. It is a first year high school project at best. Last year I donated to OmmWriter Dāna II and never felt cheated for the hard work and a truly unique minimalistic writing tool. I wasn't impressed I was being used as a guinea pig for unfinished software that cost more money than it will ever be worth. IA Writer is as polished as a high school kid's weekend programming project. My applications folder has installed stickies and textedit that offered more stabilty and real world features. I felt cheated after 5 minutes and demanded a refund from apple. How did I like iA Writer? $9.99 for a minimalistic writing tool. I purchased the app after giving up trying to navigate the app store manually and used the search box. Any other email I recieve within seconds but this email from apple took over 30 minutes. Without the validation email I wasn't allowed to login or make purchases yet. Purchasing this app was my first experience with app store or as others call it correctly the crap store.Īfter what seemed like hours I finally got my app store account working correctly with my credit card and the validation email was finally sent to my email box. Where to even begin with this adventure into idiot-land. This move was first seen on MTV in 1987 and has been performed many times since then. The dancer places one hand on the back of their neck and waves the other hand right in front of them in while spinning in a circular motion. The Sprinkler is another imitation dance move imitating the motion of a garden sprinkler. This move often seen in many of their on stage performances and music videos such as for the 1987 song Sweet Child O' Mine. This move is famously known to be the signature dance move of lead vocalist Axl Rose of rock band Guns N' Roses as he was usually glued to the mic stand. The Snake is a dance move where the dancer sways their head and shoulders around side to side. It is commonly done as a happy dance or a little celebratory move after a victory. It was derived from the popular children's toy doll at the time called The Cabbage Patch Kids, described how to do the dance in 1987. This move was popularized by the Gucci Crew II after their song The Cabbage Patch. It is a dance move in which the dancer moves their fists held out in front of them horizontally in either a clockwise or counter clockwise circular motion sometimes along with the shoulders or upper torso. The Cabbage Patch, in some ways is similar to a move termed as Churning Butter. Biz Markie himself often performs this move in the beginning of his stages performance with his back towards the audience. This move was created and popularized by Biz Markie after his songs Biz Dance and Return of the Biz Dance described this move starting in 1986. The Biz is a dance move in which the dancer hops one foot to the side and swings their arm out to the other side with the opposite arm, along with their hip popped out at the same time. I haven't done those tests on the latest version but I can believe it would be even slower, hence the only 4 stars I give. I've done some tests on my G4, including and and both show v38.10 as a lot better than v31.8 (v45.7 is yet a bit better but not that much).īut when it comes to real life testing, it's another story: v38 takes 6s more to launch, and every site I've tried is slower (from 1 to 10s more, depending on the site's complexity). The purpose of TFF is not to give you the fastest browser ever but to let you run a nearly up to date browser on your old machines.Īs I mentioned in a former review, if you value more speed, stick to version 31.8. One word of warning though: Tenfourfox follows Firefox development, meaning that, as any growing software since computers exist, it gets slower across versions. Be careful to pick the right version for your processor and be aware that also Firefox can mess up an old profile (it happened to me in the past!), especially with some extensions) )ĭon't believe the absurd bad reviews below! :-D I've tested all recent versions on an iMac G5 2.1 GHz and a Mac Mini G4 1.25 GHz. I've also applied the fonts advice on my Intel Macs with Waterfox and Firefox. Now, with its RAM maxed out, TFF's built-in basic adblock alone is the overall best choice - if you don't mind trackers, etc.īefore applying those advices, TFF ate CPU for 50s at launch before calming down, then nearly the same time for loading very heavy sites: now I've achieved 20s launch time and even the heaviest site takes less than 20s to display ("normal" pages load between 4s and 8s). My little G4 mini was lacking RAM until today, so it was faster filtering heavy pages with uBlock +uMatrix +Decentraleyes (as calculations were made in virtual memory i.e. final point: built-in basic adblock of TFF.my second point is about extensions: most of you already know it, but keep them as few as possible. Thanks to TFF's dev, I've learned that those browsers enumerate the available fonts in your system, so minimizing their number will gain a considerable amount of time, especially for slow machines. My FPR15 review will be more of a "best practices with TFF and any Firefox based browser": For these and other reasons, TenFourFox does not run plugins, and they cannot be enabled. Most importantly, Adobe Flash for PowerPC is no longer maintained and has known security risks that can crash or leak data, some sites require versions not available on the PowerPC, and QuickTime for Leopard will lose its own support with the release of OS X Lion. Plugins on PowerPC are of special concern because Mozilla is making updates to their plugin architecture which may require the plugins themselves to be updated, and there are certain difficult-to-correct bugs with them already on Tiger. Sites will now act as if no plugins were installed at all. TenFourFox no longer supports plugins or Flash - As of the previous TenFourFox 6.0, for the following reasons plugin support ships disabled. On the G4 Mac open the Terminal app (in Applications -> Utilities) and type the command machine. If you feel unsure what type of PowerPC processor your Mac has, go to the Apple menu and choose "About this Mac" and check the processor field. It comes in different tuned versions for specific PowerPC processor families: TenFourFox is a fast, efficient Web browser always based on the current version of Firefox, but unlike the main distribution TenFourFox is compatible with OS X 10.4 and 10.5 running on PowerPC processors. This may be a ridiculous idea that just gets the cat wigged out, but what have you got to lose?Ĭheck out the fabric store for lengths of cheap material, or use folded sheets. If this is the case, you might be able to use a group approach. It sounds as if the cat is close enough in the yard that you are able to approach it (albeit from too great a distance to catch it). I would definitely leave the humane traps set in a secluded location where the cat would be likely to hide anyway. Cats are too small and would likely be injured by the process. Getting animal control to “dart” the cat is not a good idea. I would have suggested the approaches you have already tried in catching your cat. Wish I had a picture of that.Īny kind of collar is a potential problem, but “breakaway” is better than another kind if you have to have a collar. Somewhere in a bush there is a little kitty skeleton hanging by that collar we didn't want to lose. Some cats that get hung up just don't come home. The key words in that phrase are "He keeps coming home". "He keeps coming home without his collar". People complain about the cat losing its collar and having to buy more collars, but the collars are pretty inexpensive - certainly cheaper than treating such a wound. If the cat pulls hard enough, the buckle just pops open. Here's the buckle on a "break-away" collar. Cats are such great healers, it will probably be half closed by the time the infection is under control. It's too infected to close up today, but we've cleaned her up, and she is taking antibiotics and pain medication. Apparently it was a little tight, having been adjusted for her neck, not her neck and shoulder. She was missing for four days, returning home thin and a little dehydrated, and with her collar in her armpit. You might have wondered why the cat looks a little angry in the first picture. They don't pop open on their own if properly closed. They look like plastic junk, but the company guarantees them not to break (with free replacement if they do). The same is true for this type of "snap" ("seatbelt") buckle. With a regular buckle like this, the cat will have great difficult getting disentangled. īecause of a cat's propensity for investigating small places and climbing trees, collars may become hung up on something. Many cats simply refuse to wear a collar, struggling constantly while it is on. A dog accepts restraint pretty well, but cats hate it. They are very flexible - if their whiskers can get through an opening, so can the rest of the cat. The cat's basic nature differs considerably from that of the dog. |
